My father brought the mail in just now and handed me a small white envelope. No idea who I could be getting mail from, I take the envelope thinking that it’s something my father was sent that he wants me to see.
Imagine my shock to see my name handwritten on the envelope, one of the prettiest stamps I have ever seen and the name of my maid of honour in the top left corner.
I am like “She is SO devious – asked me for my address so she could have it, just in case”. Ha! Likely story. I tear open the envelope because now I KNOW what’s in there – she was talking about card making supplies … I know she made me card. I was SO dying to see it.
Green background, “Thinking of You” in the top-middle of the front, ribbon around the left side, little flower on a snowflake covered mat over the front of the card. On the inside? A quote:
“The greatest gift of life is friendship and I have received it – Hubert Humphrey” Love <insert-name-here>.
I am still speechless. I am just breathless … I mean how often do you get to walk straight into a ready-made friendship? Funny thing is, honey-sunshine keeps telling me AND her how much she and I are alike …. which kinda says that we would hit it off, wouldn’t it?
The weirdest thing about this woman is how she opened up her arms without having met me for longer than 5 minutes, she hugged me, told me how happy she was to meet me and insisted that if I ever needed anything at ALL I was to call her immediately since she knew how honey-sunshine’s schedule was hinky and that I would be “home” alone. I gotta admit to being a little wary at first. I mean, that kind of warm welcome doesn’t come everyday and sometimes (unfortunately) when it does, it’s not actually what it seems. (we won’t say more about that here – this is all about the positive); but this is just proof that in this case, it’s ALL positive.
My friend Mz.Understood has always told me, since the day we first spoke back in 2002 (or was it 2001?), that my antennae was flawlessly intact. (Altho, MzU, it looks like it got broken for a while there, eh?
) Maybe I have found a 3rd person, eh Mz.U, who has flawless antennae too?
Nevertheless, it’s heart-warming to know there is someone who cares in a place where I know literally nobody.

Well, not quite “nobody” anymore.
I <3 happy endings, don’t you?
