Thanksgiving Dinner – Pt 1

IMG_5779I’ve decided I need to break this project into bits and pieces.  The whole “Me cooking Thanksgiving Dinner” is a whole project in itself simply because I have never done anything of the kind before now … but, I’ve already said that, haven’t I?

Well, I chose my recipes, and made my shopping list and hubby and I hit the stores. Let me tell you that the list I priced online using the resources I could find made my list cost a little over twice what it finally DID cost in the end. And that’s not counting the pot and roaster I had to get today.

You see, I decided I am going to Brine my turkey and went ahead and found a few different sites with methods and decided on a mix between the Food Network site and this article that outlines the turkey from defrosting, through brining and roasting and finally presentation.

One thing was clear, I needed not only a pot to brine the turkey, but also a roaster because nothing I have will hold the turkey AND the drippings comfortably enough. So I went out today and got both.

And continuing with the project timeline, I decided to defrost the turkey in the fridge … as is suggested almost every single place I’ve visited – including the pamphlet that came with the turkey itself. That way, I know it’ll be ready for brining early on Saturday morning and be ready to be popped into the oven from the brining pot on Sunday morning. (Maybe I should pop it into the brine on Friday night – just be sure I get a FULL 24 hours of brine in … ?)

Anyway, I have NO idea what I will use this pot for again after Sunday for the next year (until I decide I enjoyed it this year SO much that I am going to do it again next year.) So, if anyone has any ideas, PLEASE, let me know in the comments.
