I’ve seen people do 365 days of ME which seems a little boring to me. Who would want to see 365 pictures of me?

Since I am trying to amp up my photography, a generic 365 days in pictures might be a nice project to take on.

I only regret not starting the day hubby left in April – it would have been a really nice project to have throughout this deployment – wouldn’t it?

I think I shall do just that, actually.

I’ll make a new site (<del datetime="2010-10-16T02:12:01+00:00">probably</del> definitely 365.fyrfli.net – if it’ll allow a sub-domain with that name) and I’ll make it a WordPress driven site with a photo gallery theme … and I shall call it … 365 fyrfli. Simple.

Stay tuned.

Hubby came home on R&R on the 11th …

The Friday before, I spent most of the day with his aunt in Austin – apartment hunting for her and my very first visit to an IKEA store. On Saturday, I spent the day scouring the places in the house that hadn’t seen scouring for a while … places like window screens, etc. I was exhausted Saturday night, but managed to sleep well enough to be in good shape on Sunday when he landed.

He’s been WoW starved, so he spent a great deal of time these last 2 weeks in-game. We managed to get out a little – camping one night, eats here and there, a drive to BLORA (where the campsite was), a visit to Michigan to see his family (surprised the beejesus outta all of them too) … it was a jam-packed week. The house looks like a tornado passed through.

I’ve been lazy these 2 weeks – instead of picking up after ourselves I let things slide because I wanted to maximise the time I had with him … some people would cringe and label me a bad housewife, but frankly I don’t care because I got to spend so much time with him that this is what he had to say after leaving:

That’s gotta make anybody smile.

Now that the whole 2 weeks are done and gone … I realize I feel like I’ve been run over. I ache in odd places, I am exhausted, the house is WAAAAY too quiet, the kittehs are sad … and the whole place just seems bleak. Even the damn weather is reflecting the mood.

The good part is I have a couple new toys to keep me busy for a few days whilst I get past the worst of this:

And the iPhone4 which arrived here on the Monday after hubs did.

Already the impact of the Nikon is obvious:

This is the latest Mission24 assignment – Burn. It’s the roasting fork hubs used to burn his hotdogs when we camped a couple weeks ago. I know … corny and a bit lame, but I’ve been out of practice. Bear with me, nuh?

Work has been a joke today … I haven’t been able to focus as well as I’d like today. Maybe I need a nap. Maybe I just need to push through the essentials and leave the frills for tomorrow … maybe I just need to try harder …

/sigh

Whatever … this post is already too long.

By far, XT-002 Deconstructor is possibly one of WoW’s most annoying boss fights ever (“NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!” in a high-pitched voiced, kiddie-tantrum fashion complete with pounding his fists into the floor) … but right here and right now, his first statement is so very apt.

I’ve got a couple new toys! I promise I won’t break them this time!

Well, one of them hasn’t arrived yet and I am going to have to wait until next week before I’ll see it. That would be the iPhone 4. I tried pre-ordering for delivery, but it failed every time and I got impatient. Besides, I figure it’ll be nice to take a road trip down to Austin and pick it up … hopefully, I won’t get squashed in the store. Wish me luck?

In any case, I have abused my iPhone 3G pretty badly – moreso than any other phone I’ve had and I wonder what the deal is with that … how is it that the fanatically cautious fyrfli has been so careless? I tell myself I will be more careful this time and I probably will … the 3G has dropped far less in these last few months than it did in the first few months. That might have something to do with not putting it in my back pocket whilst I climb out of the Jeep anymore.

But today … WordPress 3.0 was unleashed. As of this writing, they number of downloads are still under 20,000 as per the download counter page.

I’ve had multiple requests to report whether there are any breaks and so I figured this was as good a time as any to post something and see whether anything has really broken. I guess we’ll see once I press the button.

So pretty … so shiny … pets new WordPress install …

On a serious note, the upgrade went flawlessly, I pushed the button in the admin panel and was done in minutes. Nothing was broken when I first reloaded the page, my theme has remained sound and all my plugins seem to still work well. So I am going to say that this has been a very successful upgrade.

I guess time will tell if those little tiny niggling things are still working too … you know, the ones that make you look back and say “I should have waited before I said I like it.”

~~~
In other news, took a little trip out to the local lake here … got a couple picts … G said it doesn’t feel like my usual shots and she’s right … either I am rusty, or I just dislike Texas so much that it’s coming out in the pictures … or … maybe it’s time for me to try something else? You tell me …
I had a productive day today. I felt so good about myself that I decided to actually unplug for a while and go do something other than stare at this screen. So I set up the little collapsible lawn chair outside and sat out with my Kindle reading. It was such a pretty day though that by the time I had read about 10 Kindle pages, I couldn’t ignore the day anymore. It was windy out, but such a blue, blue sky and nice and cool – not cold. I sat there with my face turned up to the sky for about 5 minutes, just enjoying the smell, the wind, the sun and then I got up, put the precious Kindle to sit on the dining table and grabbed the camera. Somehow, it seems that the only thing worth taking was the sky, though. The sky through the trees … and my usual lens flare to accompany this particular gem. I’d forgotten what joy I get just …. snapping pictures of random Mother Nature finds. /sigh
Yesterday was the worst of them all. My feet ached, my back ached, my head ached … some of that, I am sure, was the Hep-B vaccine I had gotten the day before (they have me on the “fast track” Hep-B plan) and piled on top of that the lack of a good night’s sleep due to WoW-itis.
/sigh
The newest patch? Oh boy. I was telling my mother, maybe slightly under-stating, that I think my WoW days were running to a close before this patch … now I am set and ready to get into the new content. I think Blizzard knew this was the case with their players. Bored with the new content of the Burning Crusade already? Here comes Wrath of the Lich King to save the day.
Ugh. It’s greed – wanting to keep their current monies and probably get a few more subs in at the same time.
Nevermind, this expansion looks to be a rather spectacular event. Already half my characters play that much better. I can’t wait.
In other news, it is frickin’ 48 degrees here now. I woke up, put on socks, sweat pants, t-shirt AND pullover in the house. OMG … But I’ll tell you something. This is something hubby and I have in common, something I have almost never encountered before in anyone else I’ve met. Something that makes our relationship that much more solid because of this: we BOTH prefer the cold. And he said it this morning to me “I’d much rather be cold than hot.” Ya. That’s it right there folks. It’s what I’ve always said: I HATE THE HEAT and would much prefer cold. You can warm up with the cold, you can pile on layers and layers of clothes. You can do shit-wad when you’re hot. It’s just impossible. And oh yea, I’ve got the “Wait until you have to deal with the cold of North America. You’ll say different then.” the know-it-alls who just refuse to believe that I could be different. “You born in Jamaica – there is no way you can LIKE the cold.” … Guess what? MUCH easier to cuddle down with hubby swathed in blankets and warm clothes with a hot cup of cocoa beside me than it is to COOL down beside hubby (both our body temps tend to be high) when it’s a steaming 80 degrees. So there.
Ok – rant done. Those who know me will recognize in that rant the old Fyr who just hated people telling her what she would think, feel or say under certain circumstances she may not have experienced before.
Today is an off-day. I am home until Monday morning when the rush starts again. My body better start getting used to the routine of getting up earlier than the worms, working HARD until 1 or 2 and then coming back home to wind down. I predict that’s the kind of day I will be having continually for a while. I really wonder though, whether this work is something I might get bored doing after a while. I really wonder. Good news is that I have at LEAST another 2 months to try it out (and them to try me out) before I have to make a decision. Should be good experience anyway.
My good friend DJ says this kind of work has always been in my nature … and considering how well he’s read me over the years, I think I might have to say “Amen” to that. I mean, didn’t I say it a few blog posts a-back? That I felt like I could finally settle down into being who I REALLY am instead of the front I put on for 10 or so years? Well, let’s just play it by ear before we make a ruling on this. Shall we?
Wonder how confusing it must have been dealing with me? My exit interview hinted as much. I was a confusing personality, an unknown quantity that people weren’t sure of from minute to minute. I thought it bizarre back then … now … I wonder…
Anyway, enough of that blather; comment if you will on these little suckers.
