so much to say today – why i wonder?

So, I had a dream last night that I had to share (Jamaicans say ‘i had was to share’ giggle)

I am here in my parents home. I am somewhat younger than I now am because I am asking my father questions that I myself know the answer to, and in a manner that only children ask.

It’s raining … HARD. It’s been raining hard for hours apparently, because the back yard is flooded. A pretty hard feat in itself since there has never been more than a couple inches of water in this backyard during the worst of the storms – Gilbert, Ivan … Dean… none of them left more than 2 or 3 inches in our backyard. So for there to be a foot or 2 of water in the backyard means that something is funky somewhere.

More funky is the fact that for some reason, traffic is routed through our backyard. Odd indeed. There are 2 cars “parked” by the “sidewalk” in the backyard. One contains a woman who is desperately trying to start the engine. It’s funny, because right up under the porch where I am standing looking out, the water is over 2 feet deep. Yet right next to her car, the depth is less than a foot. Odd again.

She eventually gets the car started and races off around the southern side of the house. Where I know the water is deeper still and so I chase off after her – well, to the front of the house to catch sight of her as she rounds the corner of the house into the front yard. She comes flying around and throws the car into park on the front porch (ya! like the front porch can hold a parked car in the first place!) and all the doors fly open. Children and red-mud water speckled with bits of debris come rushing out of the car. Woman walks off to consult with someone at the gas station that has taken up residence in the south-eastern corner of the yard.

And I am left standing looking out the front door wondering why (a) there was so much dirty water in the car in the first instance (b) why the woman’s first priority was not getting the children clean and dry and (c) where the hell that gas station came from in the front yard.

It was at this point that I woke up at 5am and could not go back to sleep.

Ya! Weird! /o\
