It is annoying me … BADLY. So badly, I needed to stop and make a short post before I went to work. It’s been bothering me for WEEKS… months even.
What am I talking about?
EYE-raq! I don’t know WHERE this originated – this abhorrent pronunciation – but it pisses me off and whereas I can’t rant and rave when I hear people with it, I can rant and rave on here without mentioning anyone in particular and referring to everyone I’ve ever heard with it in general.
PEOPLE!!! The nation’s name is EE-RAQ – SHORT-I – dammit! Get it right, or shut the fuck up!
Grrrrr.
I’m sorry. But it sounds so ignorant to hear EYE-raq. Because I grew up learning EE-raq and somehow I don’t remember anyone coming out specifically and saying “You all been pronouncing our nation’s name wrong for centuries.” Further more, I don’t hear anyone saying EYE-srael – do you? Or maybe we should start butchering everybody’s country name – Afghan-EYE-stan, Puerto R-EYE-co, and ya Amer-EYE-ca. Heh.
