I wrote my first “Research post” on fyrfli.org this morning. Of course, I think my research was heavily gimped because of memory loss. I was trying to remember what the name of the high school girl who was raped and murdered one December morning back in the early 80s; that incident helped move the decision to stop daylight saving time in Jamaica forward. I couldn’t remember her name, I couldn’t remember the name of her alleged attacker, and I couldn’t remember the date.
Woe is me.
In any case, regardless of the failing memory, I still felt good that I spent the time and effort to search for daylight saving time and it’s so-called energy saving pluses. Apparently, the whole idea of DST is saving energy, health, life …. but energy is the biggest focus these days due to the rising oil costs. Hmm… whatever. I STILL am freaked out by the sudden hour extra we got this morning … and I know I will be just as freaked when we spring forward next year and it’s still bright sunshine at 8 at night. Ridiculous if you ask me. My poor internal clock.
On another note, I got a Google Wave invite. Lemme tell yuh somet’ing: Google and it’s employees = INNOVATORS. And the caps is NOT an accident. That thing is remarkable. Live typing, sharing of documents and images, threaded conversations, multiple participants, all in one place. You want an idea of what it is? Think Microsoft Net meeting on steroids. Course, a lot of functionality that is now standard with Netmeeting is missing (whiteboard for one), but bah – I know Google will add that soon and very soon.
However, to get back on point: research and write… research and write… sounds easy and …. oddly intriguing. I think I’m going to do more of it. You never know what it might yield.
It was actually quite fun when I wasn’t frustrated by my failed recollection. I think it’s time to start making a list of topics I want to write about … learn about and share with others.
