people are so obnoxious

Went to the travel agent today, and while I am sitting in the chair answering questions, all I can hear from behind me is “psssst.” “psssst.” …. Some idiot sitting on the couch in the room trying to get someone’s attention, probably mine. Ugh.

And then, in walks this guy – a new dread. I was looking at his locs and reminiscing about how crappy my own locs looked in the beginning … and what does he do? Asks me to “borrow” my length for the weekend. Oh boy.

Anyway, all was not lost. I met yet ANOTHER cousin. She and I had a nice long talk. Very nice lady. Looks just like the family – I looked at her face and said “yup. she’s definitely one of us.” the agent who was dealing with me smiled and said “Really?” … I thought that was funny.

She told me that the family has this self-destruct button somewhere “up here”, and gestured to her head. Says we’re strong, quiet, opinionated and that we tend to be loud and aggressive when we feel we aren’t being heard. Ha!!! Talk about resonance. She went on to advise that it’d be better for the big picture if we just accepted that there are some battles that aren’t worth fighting. Funnily enough, this is a lesson I have come across more than once in the last 2 years. One I continue to be reminded of. Sometimes it’s just better to shut my mouth and leave it be. In the final analysis, some of those issues just aren’t worth arguing over.

I hope I never lose sight of the big picture. Too important.

After our talk, she advised me that I was on the right track – as far as she was concerned. That was empowering. :)

So the countdown begins. I return home on July 1st, all things remaining equal. I can’t wait.

Oop – lemme throw that up in the sidebar. :D

What did he mean, “borrow your length”?

No idea. If I had to guess, I’d say it was because my locs are mature and his aren’t – “lending” him my length would give him the illusion of loc-maturity.
