early morning musings

So, as the weather gets colder, and I watch and wait for the leaves to change, I reflect.

Last year this time I was sad, angry and depressed about not being able to stay here with my honey as the seasons changed. Well, as I knew then, here is my first season change – summer into fall. The changes thus far have been imperceptible, if any at all. VERY few things have actually happened to indicate a change in season. Well, slight misrepresentation … very few things, and in fact one very LARGE thing .. the temperatures have dropped.

A few weeks ago, I was complaining about the wild differences in temperature – from 90s to 60s within a 24-hour period. Well, that difference in temperatures hasn’t changed much, except to move a few degrees south on the barometer: now it sways between 70 and 40 degrees. In fact, this morning as I took the garbage to the sidewalk for collection, my hands started to hurt it was that cold. 41 degrees to be exact.

Hubby (ooooh! Still loving the sound of that) says I will get used to the cold soon enough. Before I do, though, I predict many howls and wails about how cold it is.  One morning, in between wails, he grabs me, swallows me up in one of those big hugs of his and goes “The best thing about cold is that you can layer on clothes to warm up – you can’t do ANYthing with heat!” … And I marvelled AGAIN at how completely alike we think sometimes. I’ve said that for YEARS and mostly gotten the response “Wait until YOU have to deal with the damn cold; then we’ll see what you say then.” Guess what, guys? I say the SAME thing (in between wails and howls about the cold, that is :D ) Its WAY nice to get out of bed and put on sweat bottoms, t-shirt and a little jacket and still feel all nice and cool.

So, in other news, I got my biometrics appointment yesterday. For those who don’t know what that is, I’m not entirely sure myself … it sounds like they take all my stats and fingerprints, but who knows with these people. Most importantly, its another step towards being permanently legal.

Re-paving old roads of friendship is easy in some cases, harder in others. But its nice to know that reconnections happen.

Thanksgiving will most likely be spent in Michigan … which means, that I need winter wear. Hubby took one look at what I had as “winter wear” and laughed me to scorn. “You’re gonna need some winter clothes – shoes especially.”  I have to tell ya, I’m kinda excited. He says there might even be snow already there by then. Hmm… and then that will make exactly THREE (i.e. 3) kinds of snow that I get to see. Yes, I’m still counting .. I’m still a newb at this. :P

What’s that? Why three? New York snow, Kentucky snow and Michigan snow are all different. Those who know will agree … but let me see if I can describe it for ya: New York snow is dirty; Kentucky snow is … like a bottle of baby powder scattered over a mile …. but Michigan snow … well, having not yet seen it, all I can tell you is that people say that Michigan snow is THE real deal. Don’t worry – I’ll have picts for ya – snow or no.

Next week Thursday is the “company” ball. I was there last year as “fiance”; this year I will be there as “wife”. THAT should be interesting. I know it means less and less these days, but I FEEL so much more like I belong now that I am wife. I don’t care if you tell me I am neurotic … that’s just the way it is for me.

I have to say, though, that not being able to earn is weighing a little heavily on the mind.  But I am not going to worry about it … it’ll work out and we’ll be fine. What I am marvelling at is that already we have been tested by a couple of the most stressful of situations for one person, much less a couple, and we’ve survivied.  I think we’ll be fine. :)

Well, let me get on with the start to my day, eh. I find I do well when I start the day slow and simple and cosy. So I’ma recline in front the TV with a cuppa and my newest Oprah mag. :)

Toodles.

Ah – let me leave you with this image

I hate the cold, even here in JA. Think Blue Mountain Peak, Hollywell, Newcastle. Never seen snow in real life, but hope to experience it one day.

Awww, she's so sweet in her lil bed. :) How alert and aware she looks.

Heh – and those places hardly get below 70. Strangely, its warmer after it snows – like maybe a full 5-10 degrees. Its the before that sucks.

She's alert only cos she sees the flash and wants to play with it – LOL
