bicycling with the hubby2B

So, this morning, honey-sunshine surprises me with the purchase of 2 brand spanking new bicycles – his and hers models, of course. We got all our gear: lights for front and rear, helmet, gloves, air pump, compass for me, reflective belt for maximum visibility to other road users …. all dolled up.

Further surprise is honey-sunshine actually stopped his gaming for an hour to take me out on our new bicycles!

Readers – I canNOT explain to you how excited I was! I donned a short-shorts (cos it’s HOT even at 8pm – and still “daylight” I should add), pulled on sneakers and socks (socks first), grabbed my phone and keys, pulled on my helmet and reflective belt and shot out the door and onto my new bicycle.

Wait! I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture of the bicycles! I was  THAT excited … tomorrow, I promise. Even if I have to take them in the storage shed where they will spend the night.

Anyway, as we got to the stoplight at the entrance to our little neighbourhood, hubby2B stops me and points ahead of us “Picture, hon. Get them.” I look up and there in front of us are 3 deer crossing the road. So I snatch the camera off my back and turn it on and snap-snap. Unfortunately, it was still in black and white mode from yesterday’s shot, but the picture of the running deer came out well despite that.

What do you think?

Anyway, the bicycle ride turned out to be HELL!!! I am SO badly out of shape that I was hurting in no time flat. Aside from the fact that I realized that changing gears on a bicycle isn’t a no-brainer for me, my poor body was crying out for mercy having not been put through that much of a workout in …. well … YEARS.

The worst part of the whole ride was me trying to get on hubby2B’s bike while he rode mine trying to figure out why my gears were being pouty … his seat was WAY too high, and instead of just sitting and chilling, I tried to get up on it and ended up twisting my ankle and falling most unceremoniously onto the verge of the road, on my ass, in broad daylight …. how embarassing.

Tonite, everything aches nicely though, and I wanna go out there again tomorrow. I want to get where a bicycle ride for 1-2 miles doesn’t put me in agony. Besides, can you imagine how many classic photo opps are passing me by while I sit here being hermit-like?

Anyway, it’s bath and bedtime for me .. .I should sleep well tonite, I think. Check in with you all tomorrow.
